Six Reasons Why Light Workers Should Charge Fees

Six Reasons Why Light Workers Should Charge Fees

As a psychic medium I am in contact with many other mediums, energy healers, psychics and light workers. The argument of whether we should charge for our work repeatedly comes up. A common perception is that since our work is spiritual we should not charge fees. I argue that this is not a good reason as everything is spiritual. We are spiritual beings.

Whether we are focused on the spiritual aspect of our existence matters not. It is who we are. We each have a soul. Therefore every, accountant, lawyer, doctor, ice-cream scooper, artist, housekeeper, etc. is doing spiritual work for his or her own soul's growth. My work as a medium is no more spiritual than that of an accountant.  We cannot be separate from the spiritual. We are the spiritual. I clearly come down on the side of" it's ok to charge for our work". Here's why.

1. This Is My Livelihood

In the United States where I live, anyone who wants is entitled to obtain the necessary skills and education for whatever (legal) job he or she desires and earn a living doing it.  Anyone. It's one of the blessings of being an American.  I am free to explore my interests, talents and abilities. Because my work is deemed "spiritual" does this mean that I do not deserve to earn a living? Priests are supported by the diocese they serve.  Even the Dalai Lama is supported by his order.

2. If I did not charge for my psychic medium skills I would have to work at another job that would not leave time and energy for mediumship.

If I were only giving my work for free, I would still have to support my family. So I would need to find another job to pay the bills. This job would likely not serve other people to the best of my ability the way being a medium does. It also most likely would not feed my soul the way being a psychic medium does. Additionally, If I were working at another job it would divert my energy and time away from working as a medium and helping people through my mediumship. I simply could not help as many people.

3. We Train A Lot

Just as other people attend schools and training so do light workers. Most of us are continually seeking to improve our skills and abilities.  While we may start with a raw "gift", as do many people, we train to improve it. This training costs us money and time. We pay for the training ourselves and often spend many, many hours and thousands of dollars improving our natural talents. A concert pianist may have a wonderful natural, spiritual gift of playing the piano. She will also spend money and time developing her natural gift. Should that pianist not be compensated because her ability is "God-given" or "spiritual"?

4. Everyone has a gift.

All special abilities or "gifts" people have are spiritual in nature for us to use. The gift may be intelligence, athleticism, healing, sewing, baking cakes, throwing a baseball, painting, sculpting, counting money, etc. Many people work using their special gifts and skills. Should they not be compensated'? Should a doctor be required to live as a pauper simply because he's using his God-given gifts of healing and intelligence?

5. Each Light Worker needs to Choose What is Best

Ultimately, each medium, healer, psychic, reiki practitioner, etc needs to decide what works best for him or her.  Most importantly, he or she should refrain from judging what other light workers choose.  Some may have the luxury of working for free or on a donations basis only. Others need to earn an income.  I can't say whether you should or should not charge for your work or how much you should charge.  What you choose to do is up to you.

I have seen very many mediums disparaging other mediums for "charging too much". They feel that when a medium becomes famous they often start charging too much. It may seem like a lot of money to me but that isn't for me to judge. I don't have to pay for that medium's services if I don't want to.  If people are willing to pay the high prices then that is what the service is worth. Like it or not in a free market society such as ours,  a service (or anything) is worth what other people are wiling to pay for it - not more and not less.

6. It's an Energy Exchange

Lastly, when we as light workers perform our work there is an energy exchange involved. Even if we are channeling our healing or messages from a higher power there is an energy exchange involved. We are giving of ourselves and our energy to other people. If we do not receive energy back we will find ourselves depleted. We will grow increasingly unhappy and and feel like we are giving all the time and being taken advantage of. Nobody wants to end up as a bitter light worker.  Not charging may be fine for someone who does it as a hobby. That's his choice. It's not up to me to judge if someone charges or how much he charges.

7. Bonus Seventh Reason

People value what they pay for. When people put energy or money into something they value it. The perceived value of the item or service increases. Conversely, people often don't value what they are given for free.  This is a well known marketing concept and is the reason designers are able to charge a premium for their items such as shoes and handbags. They are deemed luxury items. Is the item really worth more? The raw materials used the make the items are probably top quality but so are many non-designer items. When they put the designer label on it suddenly the perceived value goes up. That’s not to say I think light workers should charge designer prices, but then again who am I to judge what you do?

I hope I've clarified some of the reasons it's OK to charge for you work as a light worker. May you discover your value and most importantly value yourself.

Mystery Spirit Uncovered

Photo by Jonathan Daniels on Unsplash

I just love it when months after a reading Spirit comes through to validate information given months before.

As you may recall, back in April, 2017 I went to New Jersey for a workshop.  At this workshop we did quite a few "speed readings". We had 2-5 minutes with each person to make as many spirit  connections as we could.  So there was never enough time to get a good detailed reading. Three different times during this workshop a female spirit came through whom I could not identify.

The mediums reading for me told me she was about my age, had blond hair she wore in a pony tail and had a bubbly personality.  They said I had been good friends with this person in high school but had not been close to her for a while. One medium told me this person had died from cancer.

Each time this came up I couldn't place this spirit. This description just didn't fit any of my high school friends. I told the medium I didn't know who it was and we moved on.  My own loved ones and family members on the other side couldn't even come through because this lady kept coming through first.

The third time she came through I was sitting with Laurel Bleadon Maffei.  I told Laurel this same mystery spirit had come through several times and I couldn't identify her.  I asked Laurel if she could get some more information from her.

Laurel had an interesting message from the spirit for me. She told me that at some future point it would be obvious who this spirit was.  She told me that the lady in spirit was working on it and would bring it all together and when it comes up in the future I would know.  Laurel said that I didn't need to try and figure out who it was and that it would become clear.  She said that I would see something on Facebook or be talking to someone and I would know who this mystery spirit lady was.

Well of course, even though Laurel said I didn't need to,  I tried to figure out who it was. I searched all over Facebook and I even Googled old friends who I thought could possibly fit this description to see if I could find any obituaries.  I found nothing.

Fast forward eight months and I had forgotten about this mystery spirit. I had also reconnected with my cousin Whitnee.  We are about the same age but haven't seen or talked with each other since we were little girls.

I was talking with Whitnee and she mentioned her friend Heidi who had passed away from leukemia.  Suddenly I remembered the mystery spirit who kept showing up in my workshop. This is who the spirit was! I just KNEW it!

Interrupting Whitnee, I fired questions at her. "Were you friends in high school? Did she had blond hair? Did she wear it in a pony tail and have a bubbly personality?" Whitnee said yes they had been good friends but hadn't seen each other in a while. She confirmed that her friend had blond hair that she wore in a pony tail and had a bubbly personality.  I told her that I think Heidi had been coming through in my workshop.

As soon as I told Whitnee the story she knew it was her friend Heidi.  Whitnee said that April was significant in this story because Heidi had died in April.  Heidi passed away April 19, 2016 and her funeral was April 24, 2016. The workshop I attended was April 21-22,  2017. So it was  exactly a year later I was in this workshop and Heidi came through.

As a medium, of course I love it when I'm reading for someone and the information is immediately verifiable.  That's instant gratification.  But pretty often a spirit gives information that isn't immediately verifiable.  When the evidence is verified later the magic that happens can't even be matched.

Every day I'm so very grateful to the Great Spirit for my gift.

Love,
Chloe

How Does Someone Become a Medium?

So how does someone become a medium? Are we born this way? Do we learn this? Can you study and become a medium?

The answer is that nobody really knows for sure.  There are different ideas out there about how mediums come about.  Some mediums believe that mediums are born and not made and no amount of trying will make you a medium.  Others believe anyone can be a medium. They believe that if you study and sit in development circles and try to develop yourself you will become a medium.

Mediums are like basketball players

I believe the answer is somewhere in between.  I do think anyone can do this .  However, I don't believe everyone can do it well.  To me it's like playing  basketball.  Anyone can technically do it.  With lessons and practice you might even get pretty good.

But for most people no matter how many lessons and practice you do you aren't going to be LeBron James.  I can shoot a basketball.  Sometimes I even get it in the net.  I can learn the rules of the game well enough.  With enough practice and instruction I could probably even play on a non-competitive local team for middle aged ladies.  But I'm never going to be able to play professionally.

Some people are just born with more of a natural inclination to play basketball.  When they work hard and practice they get really, really good and can play professionally.

It's the same with mediumship.  Some people are born just being able to communicate with the spirit world better than others.  They always know the spirit people are there and never question it. With practice they can get really good at it and even help other people.

Inherited Ability

My mediumship seemed to come out of nowhere. It just started. I did not want it and was not expecting it.  So what about people like me who aren't mediums then suddenly become mediums?

When I look back over my life I can see that actually mediumship was always there. I just pushed it away for a very long time for a number of reasons.  However, it's my life work so  eventually the mediumship asserted itself and I was called to be a medium. When you have something in your life that you are supposed to do...something that you are destined to do as part of your life plan the ringing becomes so loud that you have little choice but to answer the call.

Nature And Nurture

My mediumship ability is inherited.  It comes from my dad's side of the family.  My dad could do it if he wanted.  My grandmother could have done it had she wanted to and my great grandmother had the gift. However, none of them developed it.

Although, my ability is inherited I have also worked hard to hone the skill.  I have attended workshops, sat in circles and meditation, and done distance courses.  Like many people with raw natural abilities, like a star basketball player, I needed coaching and teaching to be the best medium I can be.  It's important that I practice my skill to the best of my ability so that I can give the best readings possible so that you can get the most healing you can.

So I believe mediums, like any other skilled, talented person are both born and made.

Chloe

Why Do I Want to be a Medium?

Mavis in Seattle Class 2017
Mavis in Seattle Class 2017

I have just returned from a workshop in Seattle taught by world renowned medium Mavis Pitilla. I learned much more than I expected and met many wonderful mediums who I now consider friends. Rather than just teaching techniques, Mavis teaches us to get to know ourselves and our own mediumship. Top on my mind since my return to Alaska has been why do I even want to do this? In order to be the best medium I can for you I need to know why I even want to. Accepting my mediumship took a very long time and plenty of soul searching.  I had to address and overcome numerous fears.

Why do I want to be a medium?

Why do I want to be a medium? After all, the path of the medium is not an easy one.  Mediumship is a difficult discipline to do well.  Communicating with spirit on demand is different and more difficult than spontaneous communication.  Meaning when I attempt to contact a sitter's loved ones on the other side it's different (more difficult) than when those in spirit make themselves known to me and ask for communication.  (I am always ever grateful to the spirit world for their patience with me.)  Being a medium also subjects one to the negative attitudes of those in the physical world.  Whether other people accuse mediums of being fraudulent or doing the devil's work the negativity can be hard to take. So, why would anyone want to do this?

Mediums and those involved with the spirit world are often very altruistic and compassionate people. Often I have heard from teachers that "your first reason for wanting to be a medium had better be to help others." While that is true for me just as important is that my work be personally fulfilling.  There are many, many ways of helping other people and not all of those ways do I find enjoyable or personally fulfilling. I have had a very fulfilling career as a massage therapist for many years.  I could keep doing that and help others. My massage clients could certainly argue that massage is my gift and best way to help others.

However, when I have delivered a loving message and proven to someone on the earth plane through evidence that life does go on the healing that takes place is much more profound than anything else I can facilitate. When someone's grief is alleviated just a little bit and he or she gets to spend time for a few moments longer in a true loving connection with someone on the other side I am so deeply aware of the difference my mediunship ability has made in their life. That communication helps not only those still on the earth plane but those in spirit too. They miss you and want to talk with you too. Often those in spirit want the connection more than those on earth.

My ability to see, hear, feel those in spirit can provide a profound level of healing. To ignore it is to squander a precious gift from God. Who am I to squander that which God has given me?

Heading to New Jersey

Posted April 20, 2017 Mediumship Training

I'm heading to New Jersey tonight for a mediumship training workshop in New Jersey. I'll arrive at Newark around 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. The workshop is taught by John Holland and Janet Nohavec at the Journey Within Spiritualist Church in Pompton Lakes. I'm excited and a little scared. Mediumship is fairly new to me still and I while I did complete an online mediumship course through the James Van Praagh School of Mystical Arts I have not attended a workshop before. But I decided since spirit has shown me this path it's my obligation and privilege to learn all I can to become the very best medium I can become.
